Sean Davis is keen to stay at Portsmouth having established himself as an important member of the side.

The former Fulham midfielder has less than a year to run on his contract and has yet to be offered a new deal.

"It's up to the club, really. I want to stay," he said. "I asked for a contract last season and haven't heard back since.

"All I can do is get my head down and see what happens, but I want to play here.

"I had the chance to move to Celtic but wanted to stay in the Premier League and go on a journey with Portsmouth Football Club.

just thankful

"Obviously, I came to the club when they were in a desperate situation. Now they have moved on. That's progress, and I want to move with the club as well. Portsmouth are going in the right direction - the owner's given good backing and hopefully we can go on a run.

"I don't want to go anywhere else but at the moment I have no idea where my future will be. The ball's in their court, it's always been in their court."

Davis spent much of his time on the bench last season, but is pleased to have made his mark in the new campaign.

He added: "As a footballer, all you can do is be professional, work hard and hopefully you'll get your chance later.

"I know it's hard when you're not playing, but I think the main quality of me is my character and never-give-in attitude.

"That's what you've got to do. No-one wants to play in the reserves, but if you do you might as well get something out of it and get your head down. I am just thankful that I'm now getting the chance."
