Schweinsteiger: Van Bommel Situation 'Peculiar 2008-10-05 21:39:00
Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has chimed in on the ongoing drama surrounding the captain's position at the club. Mark Van Bommel, who became the club's first ever foreign captain during the summer, was left out of the starting XI yet again during the 1-1 draw against Bochum, having already been left out of the last two matches in the German Cup against Nurnberg and the Champions League tie at home to Lyon.
When asked whether he knew why the Dutchman was left on the bench, Schweinsteiger said: "That's a question you would have to put to the manager. He is the one who decides who is in the starting lineup and it's up to us to make the best out of it."
"Sure it is peculiar when the captain is on the bench. However, that was the decision of the manager and we all have to accept it."
