England goalkeeper David James has extended his contract at Portsmouth FC until the end of 2009/10 after a fruitful spell on the south coast.

Happy environment
The 37-year-old former Liverpool FC and Aston Villa FC custodian was recalled to the England team under new coach Fabio Capello for last month's friendly with Switzerland after impressing in the Premier League with Portsmouth in the two seasons since his move from Manchester City FC. "I'm enjoying it at Pompey - it's a fantastic environment," said James, whose side will play West Bromwich Albion FC in the FA Cup semi-finals after a 1-0 win at Manchester United FC on Saturday. "I never envisaged the club being in this position when I joined." James has been capped 36 times by England and has the option of a further extension in 2010, by which time he will be 39.
