Romanian international defender Gabriel Tamas is to join French side AJ Auxerre from FC Spartak Moskva after spending last season on loan at RC Celta de Vigo.
Final details
The 23-year-old will join Auxerre in the coming days once the club has conducted medical tests and ironed out what a statement called "the last administrative details". Capped 24 times, the former FC Brasov, FC Tractorul and FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti player joined Spartak from Galatasaray SK in 2004 but has played just 17 league games for the Russian side, and was loaned back to Dinamo for the 2004/05 and 2005/06 season. He played in 29 league games for Celta last season but could not prevent their relegation from the Primera División.
Signing spree
Tamas is Auxerre's fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Marcos Antonio, Toifilou Maoulida, Kamel Chafni and Jean-Marc Lesage. The Burgundy club finished eighth in Ligue 1 this season, missing out on a European place. Runners-up in Russia in 2006, Spartak will start their UEFA Champions League campaign in the third qualifying round.
